Twenty-Two Years Old and counting .......
How time flies. I started up RV Guitar Repairs, in Dundee, back in 1987. My logo is still the same but so many other things have changed or evolved.
2008 was a tough year, seeing the demise of my biggest customer, when the Sound Control empire came crashing down around our ears. An ignominious end for such an ambitious and swashbuckling success story. Yes, they arguably had become too big, too top-heavy and possibly too corporate but I'll always remember the good times, and there were many of them. If nothing else they gave a rather elitist music industry establishment something to think about and took their trade from a small, backstreet music shop right to the very top.
Meanwhile back on the street and business, like nature, abhors a vacuum so I'm glad to say that both Kenny's Music in Dundee and Red Dog Music in Edinburgh have come up with shops that I'm delighted to be associated with. Staffed by folk who know the business from the ground up, many of whom are themselves gigging musicians, they breathe life into the local music scene.
Despite the current economic climate, the future looks bright. Having built up a strong and loyal customer base, it's a case of business as usual and steady as she goes. I've never felt the need to make inflated and unnecessary claims in order to justify any fancy prices. Professionally trained, I've been repairing guitars since 1976 and I've always sought to provide a down to earth service at a realistic cost. I'll also supply quotes, estimates and advice as required, absolutely free of charge. Give me a call if you need an honest opinion from someone who knows what they are talking about.
